Supported by LEEDS Year of Culture 2023 and Bradford 2025, UK City of Culture, with Spirit of 2012.

In 2023, SAIL supported LEEDS 2023 Year of Culture as their sustainability partners – aiming to become the most environmentally sustainable to date. This was a big step in Leeds City Council’s commitment in becoming carbon neutral by 2030, by educating and putting measures in place to reduce carbon impact across all cultural activity and events.

Going forward, SAIL will support Bradford to deliver the UK City of Culture in 2025, with work already underway to embed sustainable practices in their events programme and, across the organisation. Bradford UK City of Culture 2025 have created a sustainability framework to help deliver their celebratory year and ensure a lasting legacy of sustainability is left in the city.

Events serve as potent catalysts for building momentum in promoting knowledge and skill-sharing within our sector. By leveraging the influence of events, we can effectively disseminate insights and best practices across various sectors. We envision this event not only as an opportunity for knowledge development but also as a platform for fostering a community of individuals passionate about implementing sustainable strategies in event management.

This event, run in collaboration with Bradford UK City of Culture and LEEDS 2023, will consist of a series of presentations from industry professionals on their insights and approaches to embedding sustainability in their events, followed by a panel discussion on sustainable event management, providing an opportunity for attendees to ask questions to the speakers.

This event will help to facilitate collaboration and knowledge sharing between professionals in events and cultural background. Their experiences and learnings will serve as valuable insights into creating new approaches, providing an opportunity to review, discuss and enhance efforts in how to successfully deliver events whilst maintaining a commitment to sustainability and the preservation of our environment.
