Carbon Literacy Training by SAIL

SAIL are committed to helping individuals and organisations take meaningful action against climate change, and were one of the first organisations in the UK to deliver training to support the sector in reducing their environmental impact.

Our Carbon Literacy Training is designed to provide the knowledge and motivation needed to make informed decisions that reduce carbon emissions.

What is Carbon Literacy?

Carbon Literacy refers to the understanding of the carbon costs and impacts of everyday activities and the motivation to take action to reduce emissions. At SAIL, we offer structured training that empowers participants to respond effectively to the challenges of climate change, both personally and professionally.

Once you’ve completed our training, you can become Carbon Literate, a certification that acknowledges your commitment to climate action. This certification helps individuals and organisations make a real difference in fostering sustainability.

Why is Carbon Literacy Important?

As the urgency of climate change increases, it is crucial to understand how our daily actions contribute to carbon emissions. Carbon Literacy raises awareness and provides practical solutions to reduce emissions. Organisations that adopt Carbon Literacy training foster a culture of sustainability, ensuring climate-conscious decisions are made across their operations.

Benefits of Carbon Literacy Training

  • Understand Climate Change: Learn about the science of climate change and how it affects everyday life.
  • Inspire Action: Gain practical tools to reduce your carbon footprint and make meaningful changes in your life and work.
  • Achieve Certification: Be recognised as a Carbon Literate individual or organisation, joining a global movement for sustainability.

Format of Our Carbon Literacy Training

Our co-founder, Jamie Saye, delivering Carbon Literacy Training to a room full of professionals from the Creative and Cultural industries

Our Carbon Literacy Training follows a three-part hybrid model, ensuring participants receive a comprehensive and cost-effective experience.

Part 1: Online Pre-Learning Element

This section of the training provides essential background knowledge about the science of climate change. It is self-directed and completed online in your own time, taking no more than 2-3 hours. This prepares you for the interactive session in Part 2.

You can complete our Part 1 training at any time by signing up below

Part 2: Interactive Training Session (Online or In Person)

In this session, our Carbon Literacy Trainers expand upon the material from Part 1. It includes tangible, practical actions you can take to reduce your environmental impact. The session is designed to be interactive, encouraging questions and group discussions. The session lasts 3.5 hours and can be conducted online via Zoom or in person. If you are interested in an in-person session, please contact us for further details. (If you choose the online option and don’t already have Zoom, you can download it for free here.)

Part 3: Participant Details Forms and Pledges

The final part of your training involves developing both individual and group pledges to reduce your carbon footprint. This section should take no longer than 1 hour to complete. The Carbon Literacy Project independently verifies your pledges to certify you as Carbon Literate. They also require proof that our delegates have received a minimum of 7.5 hours of training. Our hybrid training plan meets this requirement in a cost-effective way, without compromising on quality.

Tailored Sessions for Full Teams

In addition to our regular open-call courses, which anyone can attend, we also offer bespoke training sessions for full teams. This allows organisations to train up to 15 of their employees together, fostering a stronger collective commitment to sustainability. If you’re interested in arranging a dedicated session for your team, please contact us directly.

Watch Testimonials from Past Participants

We’ve created a Carbon Literacy video showcasing testimonials from people who’ve completed the training and are now making a positive difference. Watch the video to see the impact Carbon Literacy training has had on others, and get inspired to take action yourself.
