Carbon Literacy Training for the Creative and Cultural sector

Climate action can feel complex, but understanding the basics is a powerful place to start.

SAIL’s Carbon Literacy training is designed for people working across the creative and cultural sector who want to build their understanding of climate change and explore practical ways to reduce carbon emissions in their work, organisation and everyday life.

During this interactive online session, you’ll explore:

• The fundamentals of climate science and how human activity contributes to climate change
• What a carbon footprint is, including the differences between Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions
• The main sources of greenhouse gas emissions relevant to the creative and cultural sector
• Practical approaches to reducing emissions through everyday decisions and organisational practice
• How to identify and commit to meaningful actions that support climate goals

The session combines knowledge, discussion and action planning, helping you turn learning into practical next steps.

How the training works

Our Carbon Literacy training has been tailored for people working across the creative and cultural sector. The course combines self-directed learning with a live online workshop, giving you the knowledge, context and practical tools to take action on climate change.

Before the session

You’ll complete a short online learning module in your own time before attending the workshop. This introduces the fundamentals of climate change and carbon emissions, helping everyone start the live session with a shared understanding.

Live online workshop

During this interactive workshop, we’ll explore climate change in more depth, discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the creative and cultural sector, and identify practical actions that can reduce carbon emissions in your work and everyday life.

The session includes discussion, group activities and time for reflection and action planning.

Carbon Literacy certification

Following the workshop, you’ll be supported to complete the requirements for Carbon Literacy certification. This includes making pledges for actions you’ll take personally and within your organisation or creative practice.

Successful participants will receive official Carbon Literacy certification.
