Collaborate

Discover how SAIL drives sustainable innovation across West Yorkshire’s creative sector through collaboration, circular economy working groups, and practical tools for change.

Collaboration for Circular Change

At SAIL, collaboration is the driving force behind everything we do.

We bring together individuals, organisations, and networks from across West Yorkshire’s creative and cultural industries to co-create ideas, solutions, and tools that support a just transition toward a circular, more sustainable future. Through regular working groups, shared learning, and open knowledge exchange, we’re reshaping the way our sector approaches resources, production, and environmental responsibility.

A Shared Vision for Circular Change

Our Vision

To enable a thriving circular economy across West Yorkshire’s creative and cultural sector, one where waste is reimagined as a resource, and sustainability is a shared priority.

Our Mission

We unite people from across the sector to co-design practical tools, frameworks and models that reduce environmental impact by:

  • We will bring together organisations, individuals and networks from across West Yorkshire to cocreate solutions, ideas and tools to move us towards our shared vision.
  • We will reduce our impact on the planet, by enabling material reuse, resharing and reimagining; reducing our sectors overall demand for new resources, and the production of unnecessary waste.
  • We will lead the way by educating, informing and inspiring others to adopt circular economy approaches, ideas and solutions across all of their work.

Circularity Working Group

The Circularity Working Group is one of the key spaces where this vision comes to life. This group meets regularly to tackle sector-specific material challenges, from set reuse to costume lifecycle, and to identify scalable solutions that can be shared across the region.

Our Purpose

  • To reduce the environmental impact of material demand and waste production within West Yorkshire’s creative and cultural sector.
  • To create opportunities for efficiencies in material use, facilitating co-benefits including cost, time and space saving.
  • To strengthen the resilience of the creative and cultural sector in a challenging economic, cultural, and environmental climate.
  • To facilitate the development of circular economy knowledge and skills in our sector & future generations.

By joining the group, members commit to open, constructive dialogue and a shared goal: systemic change through collaboration.

“We’re not just discussing sustainability. We’re doing it together"
Jamie Saye, Executive Director, SAIL

Working Groups in Action

In addition to the Circularity Working Group, SAIL supports focused collaboration with our topic-specific groups, including:

  • The Green Book Working Group – The purpose of The Green Book Working Group is to ensure members of the group are supported to achieve ‘Basic’ and ‘Intermediate’ Levels in the Theatre Green Book.
  • The Constellation Network – a quarterly gathering of network stewards and stakeholders, aligning progress and sharing knowledge across sectors

Each working group addresses a real-world challenge and is designed to generate best practices that can be shared and adopted more widely.

We offer strategic guidance across everything from policy writing and carbon reporting to building custom data dashboards and planning your pathway to net zero. Our facilitation approach focuses on upskilling your team while delivering actionable insights, so sustainable transformation becomes not just achievable, but embedded in how you work.

Supporting Collaboration Through the Resource Hub

The Resource Hub is a practical tool that supports collaboration through action. It’s a free-to-use online platform where creative professionals can list, find, donate or request items like sets, props, costumes, and tech equipment.

By using the Resource Hub, cultural and creative organisations are:

  • Keeping materials in circulation longer
  • Reducing unnecessary waste
  • Saving costs while helping others do the same

Whether you’re sourcing items for your next project or looking to pass on materials after a production, the Resource Hub helps make reuse easy, efficient, and impactful.

Join the Movement

When you collaborate with SAIL, you become part of a growing network of creatives committed to sustainability and collective action. Whether you join a working group, attend a training session, or list materials on the Resource Hub, your contribution helps move the entire sector forward.
